What counts as an HVAC emergency
No heat when it's below freezing — that's a pipes-and-safety issue, not a comfort issue. A carbon monoxide alarm going off (leave the house first, then call 911 and your gas utility, then us). No cooling during extreme heat in a home with elderly residents, infants, or medical needs. A system making burning smells or tripping the breaker repeatedly.
If it can safely wait until morning, we'll say so — an emergency visit costs more, and we'd rather you spend less when the situation allows it.
Try these before you call (they're free)
Check the thermostat: set to Heat or Cool, fresh batteries, correct schedule. Check the breaker panel for a tripped breaker and the furnace power switch — it looks like a light switch on or near the unit. Check the filter: a fully clogged filter can shut a system down on safety limits. And in winter, make sure snow hasn't drifted over the outside intake and exhaust pipes — a surprisingly common cause of no-heat calls after a storm.
